Athens Compressor Expansion Project

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) granted Vector authorization to expand its mainline system in 2009, issuing a certificate order on June 6, 2008. The certificate approved Vector’s application for its Athens Compressor Expansion project filed with FERC on November 30, 2007.

The project included the construction of a new mainline compression facility on Vector’s existing mainline system in Athens Township, Calhoun County, Michigan and minor facility adjustments to its existing compressor stations located at Highland, Michigan and Springville, Indiana. The expansion accommodated increased long-haul gas flow capacity on the Vector Pipeline transportation service system. With service starting on October 19, 2009, this was Vector's second expansion to its mainline natural gas transmission pipeline in two years.

"While wrapping up our 2007 expansion, we were pleased to find robust interest in additional expansion clearly reflected by long-term agreements in our binding Open Season," said Vector Pipeline President Craig R. Fishbeck. "This strong market demand encouraged us to draft plans to build one more compressor station and expand the Vector Pipeline by approximately 100 MMcf/d. Adding another station will bring our system from its 2007 expanded capacity of about 1.2 Bcf/d up to 1.3 Bcf/d in 2009. As market interest continues to grow in the future, Vector still has the potential to increase capacity even further using economical compression expansion."
