Agricultural & Drain Tile Mitigation – Vector Pipeline
Our Commitment to Agriculture
Vector Pipeline knows that farms are complex businesses. We work closely with landowners from the start of the project through construction and restoration to reduce any impact on farming. We understand how important drain tile systems are for crops, so we do our best to avoid disturbing them and fully restore any systems affected during our work.
Drain Tile Mitigation Plan
The Vector Drain Tile Mitigation Plan (DTMP) helps us work together with landowners and plans to reduce impacts on drain tile systems. &DTMPsets out steps to find, manage, fix, and repair drainage systems, and can be adjusted for specific sites if new information comes up.
Planning & Landowner Coordination
Vector Pipeline partners with landowners during pipeline planning and construction to find drain tile systems and learn about each field’s drainage needs. Details such as tile location, size, layout, depth, materials, flow direction, and outlet locations are important. Drainage maps from landowners help us plan for a smooth restoration.
Topsoil Protection
We remove and store topsoil separately from subsoil, then put it back after the pipeline is installed to keep the land’s original shape. We never use topsoil for pipe padding or filling trenches. If the topsoil is less than 12 inches deep, we separate the whole layer when possible. If it’s deeper, we separate at least 12 inches. We check for soil compaction and fix it with approved deep-tillage methods if needed.
Construction & Restoration
Experienced construction staff make sure we follow all landowner agreements. We finish permanent drain tile repairs before putting the topsoil back. Most pipelines are placed below drainage systems, except at approved above-ground sites. If any drain tiles are damaged during construction, we fix them with materials that are as good as or better than the originals, following our agreements with landowners.
Postconstruction Monitoring
After construction, we check disturbed areas to see how well plants are growing back and to address any concerns from landowners. We monitor drain tile systems for up to three years, or until we’re sure restoration is complete. Vector right-of-way representatives are available to help throughout the restoration process.
Public Awareness & Safety
Enbridge shares safety information with landowners and communities through our public awareness program. Safety is at the core of everything we do and shows our commitment to protecting landowners, communities, employees, and the environment.
